Get Tanned Safely

GET TANNED
Joys of summer! The smell of freshly cut grass, drinking coffee on your porch, enjoying a very late sunset and of course, having a lovely tan. Have you ever wondered why we get tanned? Why does your skin gets darker and why people say it’s so harmful to you? Fortunately, I have some concise answers for you. I’m here to help you make better decisions about your skin and health in general.

First, as you surely already know, there 2 main types of UV rays, wich are UVA and UVB rays. Natural UVA rays are not as harmful as the other kind since they don’t cause direct damage to the skin. However, since they pass through glass, they are used in tanning beds in huge, enormous quantities and there, they are really harmful to the skin.

UVB rays are the most detrimental ones for your skin. Fortunately, they can’t pass through glass so it’s easier to avoid them. They are the ones responsible for sunburns and damages to DNA. UVB rays reach the dermis of your skin and kill cells in your epidermis, making you look tan. Yes, you read that well, your tan is nothing more than dead cells which become darker when they die. Moreover, those rays cause disturbances in skin cell’s DNA, eventually leading to skin cancer, also called melanomia.

Ok great, but how do I prevent it from happening?
The answer is simple: sunscreen.
I already hear you from here. ”But if I wear sunscreen, I don’t get tanned” You’re right. At first, you don’t get AS tanned AS fast as you wish for. BUT, your skin cell regenerating system won’t get as saturated with all the disturbance at once and it will make you a LOT less prone to get skin cancer.

Make Moving Day Easier

MAKE MOVING DAY EASIER
So. Moving day is coming and you know it. Maybe you’re optimistic about it because you’re upgrading your living place, or maybe not so much since you had to move out from this wonderful place of yours. One way or an other, moving day is the same. Packing boxes. Moving furniture. Shattering things on the ground. (Yep. Been there, done that)
Since I moved a fair amount of times, I can help making this day easier on you and your friends. Here are my 6 pro tips to make moving day easier.

1. Start packing boxes one week in advance.
Or at least 4-5 days. We always underestimate the amount of stuff in our possession. By starting to pack one week before the big day, it will help you get a clear view of the stuff you own.

2. Throw away. Give away.
Maybe with a little help from the magic 5 Item Rule To Declutter, or from your own way, you NEED to declutter. And moving is simply the best way to get rid of things you don’t need or want anymore. It will save you a lot of time packing and unpacking boxes.

3. Bring boxes before the big day. 
If it’s possible, try to take some boxes to your new place a few days before. It will make a HUGE difference.

4. Save space by vacuuming.
All your clothes, coats, sheets, quilts. Place them in vacuum seal bags and you won’t believe how space you saved and how it makes life easier.

5. Buy a few clear plastic bins.
You can put all the things you know you’ll need first like cleaning supplies and showering essentials.

6. Make sure you don’t throw away newspaper a few weeks in advance.
They cost absolutely nothing and make a great replacement for bubble wrap. You can use it to pack dishes and/or tableware.

Declutter – The 5 Items Rule

DECLUTTER
Spring is here. And now we all want to clean, declutter and tidy everything. But where to start? How do I keep my things still organized 4 months from now? Here comes the 5 items rule. It’s soooo simple, you’ll wonder how you managed to live without it before. And the thing is, we feel so much better when we get rid of stuff we don’t use/wear/need.

So, as the name of the rule says, the magic number is 5. You can own 5 items per category.

For example, you can own 5 tank tops.
You can own 5 pillows/cushions.
You can own 5 pyjamas.
You can own 5 wall decor items.

And the list goes on and on. BUT, there are 2 exceptions. The first is for underwear. It would be impossible to live with only five panties.  The second is for your passion. Whether it’s photography, makeup, watches, it’s okay to have more of those items. Having a passion is healthy and great for you.

If you don’t know where to start with this rule, try to start with the obvious. Are you drinking coffee right now? How many mugs do you have? What are you wearing? Do you really need to own this twelfth pair of jeans? There is no magic wand. Simply take the time to consider the use of things when you use them daily. Oh and well, think twice before buying anything new. Sometimes, more than twice. It will help with futur declutter.

What’s great about this is that you can make the most of this decluttering to give things to charity and to people in need. We don’t always have to throw away our old things in the trash to feel good. Giving them away feels even better plus you’ll feel better looking at your home afterwards 🙂

Get Rid Of Cat Hair For Good

GET RID OF CAT HAIR

If you’re like me, you love your cat unconditionally. No hair can get in between your fluffy pet and you and well, no one. With the busy schedule I have, cleaning and removing cat hair from pretty much everything in my apartment have to be simple yet efficient.  And I guess you feel the same way. Here are the 4 best ways to get rid of cat hair for good.

1- Rubber gloves on fabric (couch, chairs, curtains)
You simply wet your gloves and rub your hands on the fabric you want to remove the hair from. You will see strands of pet hair appear instantly and since they’ll be wet, none of them will fly away.

2- Use dry cloths to sweep floors – Never use a regular broom
A regular broom will do more harm than good. They do not trap hair like a cotton cloth will do. Instead, they make hair go all over the place, making you feel like you did a great job cleaning but 30 mins after you’re done, your pet hair will fall back on the floor.

3- Brush your cat everyday
Believe me, I know it’s hard. From finding the time to do it to trying to get your cat to stay in place for 2 mins. Just think about all the hair that’s left on the brush that won’t stick to your black clothes. It’s really worth it.

4- Use baking soda before vacuuming your carpet floors
Baking soda will loosen hair from carpet fibers and it will make it WAY easier for you to vacuum since you won’t have to go over the same spot 20 times.

Easiest Path To Time-Management

Time-Management

Whether you have kids, you’re in college, high school or even working full-time, time-management can be really hard if not taken the right way. I used to have a lot of difficulties managing my time and well, procrastination was my best friend. With the new semester, I really wanted to be able to manage my time better so I tried a lot of ways to help with the situation (read ”dirty dishes and late assignments”). Fortunately, I found really great ways to get to better in time-management and I simply threw away ones that sound good but don’t actually work in real life.

1 – Use a planner. 
I know, it sounds like plain boring logic. The thing is, if you learn to use it properly, you will wonder how you were able to live without it. Try to remember to write down all your tasks without going in too much details – that’s when we tend to skip things.

2 – Take the time.
You’ll be surprised how it seems like we have so much more time when we stop trying to ”Find the time”. Just take the time, make the time.

3 – Focus.
You’ll get more done if you do one thing at a time than if you multitask like crazy. If you’re afraid to forget something, write it down.

4 – Get your mind on the right path.
By accomplishing small tasks, you will find yourself more motivated and confident to do bigger or harder tasks.

5 – Stay busy.
I know it might sound crazy but as long as you don’t feel overwhelmed, having a lot of things to do might just be the thing you need. Sometimes if we have 1 or 2 tasks to do in a week, we will wait until the last second to get them done. If we have a lot of different things going on, we naturally adapt to the situation.

6 – Use a little bit of hierarchy.
Time-Management becomes so much more easy if we accomplish the hardest tasks first. It may looks huge at first sight but try breaking it in smaller tasks. Again, it will make you feel more accomplished and happy.

7 – Stay away from those time-management apps and websites.
They won’t help you in the long run. Stop trying to find miraculous ways to become as organized as Martha Stewart. You need to make changes in your attitude towards time-management. I know it sounds harsh, but it’s true. See it as a challenge, a way to become an even better person that you already are.
